Clothes Hanger Indicator

Vale Industrial Design was approached with the task of developing a simple, manual device capable of determining the number of times an item of clothing had been taken from a conventional clothes hanger.

Concept Visualization

Abstract ideas were explored to generate ideas surrounding a mechancially activated device which gives the user a basic counter fro tracking the number of times a piece of clothing is worn

Another key consideration was the design of a part that secures the device to the hanger.

Concept Selection and 3D Modelling

One of the concepts generated took inspiration from the design of threaded pipe fittings. A soft inner material would act like a cushion, forming around the profile of various hangers. For a light product with low input forces, this method was deemed the optimal balance between simplicity, ease of assembly and compactness
